Trip cancellation & interruption

Reimburses pre-paid, non-refundable trip costs when a covered reason stops you from going or cuts the trip short.

What it is

Trip cancellation pays back non-refundable costs if you have to cancel before you leave; trip interruption covers the unused part and sometimes the trip home if you must cut the trip short. Card versions only pay for covered reasons listed in the benefit guide, such as illness, injury, death of a family member or severe weather, depending on the card.

What to check on your card

  • Limit: per traveler, per trip, and sometimes per 12 months.
  • What counts: some cards cover only passenger fares; others include tours and hotels.
  • How you paid: many cards require the whole trip, or at least part of it, on the card or its points.
  • Covered reasons: changing your mind is never a covered reason on any card we checked. “Cancel for any reason” is a separate add-on sold with some standalone policies.

These are general descriptions. The exact terms on your card are in its Guide to Benefits. Not insurance advice.
