Lost or damaged baggage

Pays to repair or replace bags that a carrier loses, damages or that are stolen, on top of what the carrier pays.

What it is

Lost or damaged baggage coverage usually pays only the amount above what the airline or other carrier already pays, up to a limit per traveler or per trip.

What to check

  • Limit: per traveler, per bag, per trip, and lower limits for items like jewelry and electronics on some cards.
  • Excess: most cards pay after the carrier.
  • Fare paid with the card: usually required.

These are general descriptions. The exact terms on your card are in its Guide to Benefits. Not insurance advice.
